Black Canyon Consulting (BCC) is actively seeking a talented Full Stack Developer proficient in Python, Django, and Angular to contribute to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), a vital component of the U. S. National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health. This role is hybrid, requiring candidates to be onsite at the NCBI in Bethesda, MD, approximately two days a week.
The Full Stack Developer will be instrumental in developing solutions for NCBI’s Sequence Read Archive (SRA), the leading global repository for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data. This initiative is part of an international collaboration with archives in Europe and Japan. SRA plays a crucial role in making biological sequence data accessible to the research community, facilitating reproducibility and enabling groundbreaking discoveries through data analysis and comparison. With the SRA being a Big Data archive containing tens of petabytes of data, future enhancements will increase its utility across various fields, including Medical Health (genetic diseases, cancer), Public Health (food safety monitoring, antimicrobial resistance, viral outbreaks), and microbial diversity, among others.
As a part of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) within the NIH, NCBI serves over six million users daily, providing access to critical research, clinical, genetic, and other information that significantly impacts biomedical research and public health.
