About the job

Lumos & Associates is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer who excels in field data collection, laboratory testing, and technical report writing. This position is perfect for those who thrive in both outdoor environments and laboratory settings, translating data into valuable engineering insights.

If you have a passion for problem-solving, enjoy working outdoors, and take a hands-on approach to science and engineering, this role is for you. You will be responsible for collecting and testing soil and materials, overseeing testing outcomes, assisting with site investigations, and ensuring that all projects are built on a solid foundation, literally and metaphorically.

Since our inception in 1978, Lumos & Associates has delivered expert engineering, surveying, geotechnical, and construction management services to clients throughout northern Nevada, California, and more recently, southwestern Idaho. We pride ourselves on creating a positive and collaborative work environment where our employees can flourish. We are committed to professional growth and wellbeing, guided by our core values: Stay Moving, Dip Down, Own It, Make It Right, and Take Pride.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field investigations and geotechnical testing, including soil sampling, borehole drilling, and laboratory analysis.
  • Evaluate geotechnical data to understand soil and rock mechanics, groundwater conditions, and potential geohazards.
  • Operate and maintain geotechnical testing equipment, including nuclear density gauges.
  • Perform laboratory testing on soil, aggregate, and other geotechnical materials.
  • Analyze field and lab data to support geotechnical evaluations and design recommendations.
  • Prepare clear, detailed, and technically sound geotechnical reports for stakeholders.
  • Ensure all testing and reporting align with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with project engineers, construction teams, and clients to effectively communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Review and correct geotechnical reports for accuracy.
  • Mentor and guide staff to enhance job performance.
