Key Responsibilities:Design and implement satellite GNC software to support all mission operations throughout various flight phases, including contingency scenarios. Create concepts of operations (CONOPs) that effectively balance thermal constraints, power budgets, momentum management, satellite communications, and payload-pointing requirements. Develop and implement onboard GNC algorithms to enhance vehicle autonomy and fault tolerance while ensuring optimal navigation and control performance. Maintain and update GNC software configurations in response to minor satellite design changes and mission adaptations. Conduct high-fidelity 6DOF modeling and simulation to analyze satellite dynamics, sensors, actuators, and their interactions.

About the job

At SpaceX, we believe that a future where humanity explores the stars is far more exhilarating than one where we remain Earth-bound. We are dedicated to developing groundbreaking technologies to make this dream a reality, with the ultimate objective of establishing human life on Mars.

Position: GNC Engineer - Attitude Determination and Control Systems (Starshield)

Starshield harnesses SpaceX’s advanced Starlink technology and launch capabilities to bolster national security initiatives. Unlike Starlink, which caters to consumer and commercial markets, Starshield is specifically tailored for government applications, focusing initially on earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads.

As a GNC Engineer on the Starshield team, you will leverage your passion and expertise in spacecraft attitude dynamics and control, orbit and attitude navigation filtering, orbital mechanics, spacecraft systems design, and software development. You will play a critical role in supporting the Starshield Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) GNC team.

The Starshield GNC team is divided into several specialized sub-teams. The ADCS team is dedicated to the design, analysis, testing, and operational support of GNC software and hardware. Your primary focus will be to ensure that all Starshield vehicles adeptly balance payload pointing requirements, sensor availability, momentum management, thermal constraints, and power generation needs throughout the mission. The ADCS subsystem is vital for mission success, and you will be part of a high-impact team that drives the long-term success and continuous innovation of the Starshield program. Join us in developing the software that powers Starshield satellites and ensures mission success!
