Qualifications

Thorough understanding of the dimensions and weight capacity of forklift trucks and their loads. Ability to assess the height and width requirements of doorways and aisles for safe forklift operation. Familiarity with the storage area layout to locate and place items efficiently without detailed instructions. Proven skills in maneuvering forklift trucks in tight spaces. Advanced knowledge and skill level compared to Hoist Operator 1 in handling controls of forklifts and/or clamp trucks. Competency in controlling the operation of forklift trucks, including starting, stopping, backing, and navigating through narrow aisles, ramps, and loading/unloading from trucks or railroad cars.

About the job

  • Efficiently operates equipment for the movement of finished products for shipping or storage purposes.
  • Supplies the Manufacturing Department with necessary materials as required.
  • Stages products for movement or shipment to ensure streamlined operations.
  • Organizes and racks unused supplies while maintaining an accurate inventory of types, amounts, and locations of items.
  • Transports and processes manufacturing by-products effectively.
  • Empties trash hoppers and performs various housekeeping duties as needed to maintain a clean work environment.
  • Conducts routine daily inspections of hoisting equipment and ensures that maintenance needs are communicated promptly.
  • May perform battery servicing duties including inspecting, recharging, and replacing batteries as well as lubricating the truck's moving parts.
  • Adheres to and actively promotes all safety policies and procedures, including safe handling of hazardous waste, lock out-tag out rules, and hearing and eye protection policies.
  • Engages in other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
