About the job

JOIN OUR TEAM AS AN INSTRUMENTATION & TEST ENGINEER

At Proxima Fusion, we are on a mission to revolutionize sustainable energy through innovative fusion technology. Our pioneering projects are centered around the remarkable W7-X stellarator, utilizing cutting-edge advancements to create commercially viable fusion power plants.

Our endeavors in stellarator optimization, driven by advanced computational techniques and machine learning, are leading us towards unprecedented developments in fusion technology. We are unlocking new, high-performance design opportunities with the help of high-temperature superconducting magnets.

To seize this monumental opportunity, we are assembling a team of dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a significant impact and transforming the technological landscape.

WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER A CAREER WITH US

  • Impact: Contribute to groundbreaking energy science initiatives.

  • Collaborative Environment: Work alongside top experts in superconductivity within the PSI ecosystem.

  • Flexibility: As an early member of our team, you will influence our tools and workplace culture significantly.

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of Proxima Fusion, you will be instrumental in designing the first generation of fusion power plants that will provide the world with clean, carbon-free energy. Your primary focus will be on the superconducting coils at the heart of our reactor, which must perform under extreme conditions, near absolute zero temperatures and substantial mechanical stress.

We seek a versatile engineer to join our team at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). You will develop instrumentation and testing frameworks that validate our magnet prototypes. Whether you are selecting sensors for cryogenic environments or programming real-time dashboards for test runs, your contributions will accelerate our path to commercial fusion power.

KEY TASKS INCLUDE:

Your responsibilities will encompass conceptual design, development of modeling and analytical tools, and practical experimental work across three primary areas:

1. Instrumentation Design for Superconducting Devices

You will play a key role in implementing testing protocols, assisting in the instrumentation of coils, and establishing measurement systems to advance our projects.
