The Associate Teacher role at KIPP NYC serves as a vital stepping stone toward becoming a lead teacher within our esteemed network of public charter schools. This position offers comprehensive training and development opportunities, allowing Associate Teachers to collaborate closely with lead teachers and gain invaluable classroom experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities encompass (but are not limited to):
- Partner with the Lead Teacher to deliver a curriculum tailored to meet the unique needs and interests of each student. Execute lessons designed by the Lead Teacher, incorporating best practices and necessary accommodations for diverse learning styles.
- Utilize data to support small group instruction and individual student learning when not engaged in whole-class teaching, fostering an inquiry-based curriculum that ignites a passion for learning.
- Develop and implement daily small group intervention lessons.
- Provide instructional support in the absence of the Lead Teacher, ensuring continuity of high-quality education.
- Assist the Lead Teacher in cultivating a learning environment that is conducive to student development, aligned with their maturity and interests.
- Observe experienced teachers and participate in reflective discussions regarding classroom management and instructional methodologies. Collaborate on lesson planning and upcoming classroom activities.
- Direct the educational process to meet curriculum objectives, establishing clear goals for all lessons, units, and projects, and effectively communicating these to students.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies and resources that align with best practices and meet the specific needs of students and the classroom environment. KIPP NYC will provide ongoing coaching and resources for successful implementation.
- Assess student progress in collaboration with the Lead Teacher through continuous observations, authentic assessments, and formal evaluations. Offer regular feedback to students, inform parents of progress, and prepare comprehensive progress reports.
- Exemplify KIPP NYC's core character strengths in interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
Successful Associate Teachers will:
- Collaborate effectively with lead teachers to implement a challenging, college-preparatory curriculum aligned with Common Core standards.
- Actively seek and implement feedback from instructional leaders to refine their teaching practices.
- Regularly utilize diagnostic assessment tools to identify individual student strengths and needs, facilitating targeted interventions and academic advancement.
- Ensure a safe and supportive classroom environment for all students.
