As the Assistant Manager of Plant Operations and Engineering Services at Etobicoke General Hospital’s East Tower, you will report directly to the Manager of Plant Operations and Engineering Services. In this pivotal role, you will provide operational leadership for the Engineering and Maintenance Department, overseeing daily activities to ensure the efficient functioning of vital hospital infrastructure.
Your responsibilities will include supervising and nurturing a team of maintenance professionals, prioritizing and coordinating their work, and monitoring performance and operational efficiencies. Your contributions will be crucial in evaluating, recommending, and implementing enhancements to building systems, maintenance programs, and policies, ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the operation and maintenance of essential physical plant systems such as HVAC, Building Automation Systems (BAS), emergency power distribution, lighting, potable and process water systems, medical gas systems, elevating devices, fire and life safety systems, as well as grounds maintenance.
- Supervise skilled trades personnel, including performance management, coaching, training, and scheduling.
- Collaborate with the Manager on labor relations matters involving unionized staff in accordance with collective agreements.
- Provide technical guidance in identifying, analyzing, and resolving infrastructure and maintenance-related issues.
- Organize and schedule daily operational activities for Plant Operations and Maintenance teams, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Oversee the implementation of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and monitor key performance indicators.
- Identify repair strategies and ensure timely execution of maintenance projects.
- Conduct technical assessments of infrastructure and recommend improvements for reliability.
- Assist in procurement processes by preparing technical specifications for RFPs and tenders.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards by liaising with governing authorities.
- Monitor contractor performance and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
