What this role entails:
Contributors will engage in various tasks, including:
- Crafting original computational biology challenges that replicate authentic research workflows;
- Designing Python programming problems that necessitate solutions (utilizing libraries such as Numpy, SciPy, BioPython);
- Ensuring that the problems are computationally demanding and cannot be resolved manually within a practical timeframe (days/weeks);
- Creating problems that require complex reasoning in bioinformatics, systems biology, and molecular modeling;
- Drawing inspiration from real research issues or practical applications within the biology sector;
- Validating solutions with Python using standard computational biology libraries;
- Clearly documenting problem statements and providing validated correct answers.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
This opportunity is well-suited for biology experts with Python experience who are open to part-time, non-permanent projects. Ideally, candidates will have:
- A degree in Biology or related disciplines;
- Proficiency in Python for numerical validation. Alternative programming skills in MATLAB, R, C, SQL, Numpy, Pandas, SciPy, or domain-specific libraries may also be considered;
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience, including applied, research, or teaching roles;
- Experience analyzing biological data and utilizing algorithms;
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and computational methodologies;
- Exceptional written English skills (C1+ proficiency).

Project Time Commitment:
Active project phases are expected to require approximately 10–20 hours weekly, depending on project needs. This estimate is not a guaranteed workload and applies solely during active project phases.
Compensation:
Participants can earn up to $45 per hour, contingent on their skill level and contribution pace. Note that compensation may differ across projects based on their scope, complexity, and required expertise.
