Opportunity Overview
Each project is unique, and contributors may:
- Design innovative computational biology challenges that replicate authentic biological research workflows;
- Develop problems that necessitate Python programming for resolution (utilizing libraries such as Numpy, SciPy, and BioPython);
- Ensure challenges are computationally demanding and cannot be resolved manually within reasonable timeframes (days or weeks);
- Create problems that require complex reasoning paths in areas such as bioinformatics, systems biology, and molecular modeling;
- Base problems on real-world research issues or practical applications from biological practice;
- Validate solutions through Python using established computational biology libraries;
- Clearly document problem statements and provide verified correct answers.
Candidate Requirements
This opportunity is ideal for biology specialists with Python experience who are open to part-time, non-permanent projects. The preferred candidates will possess:
- A degree in Biology or a related field;
- Proficiency in Python for numerical validation. Knowledge of MATLAB, R, C, SQL, Numpy, Pandas, SciPy, domain-specific libraries, Stata, or any programming language can be considered equivalent;
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience, including applied, research, or teaching experience;
- Experience in biological data analysis and algorithm development;
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and computational techniques;
- Strong written English skills (C1+ level).
Process Overview
Apply → Successfully complete qualifications → Participate in a project → Fulfill tasks → Receive payment.
Project Time Expectations
For this role, tasks are estimated to require approximately 10–20 hours per week during active phases, based on project needs. This is an estimate and not a guaranteed workload, applicable only while the project is active.
