Building Substitute Teacher
KIPP Massachusetts is seeking dedicated, skilled, and culturally aware building substitute teachers who will enhance our educational environment by stepping in as needed. The Building Substitute will provide essential coverage for teachers during their absences and may also take on the responsibilities of a Lead Teacher during short-term gaps. This role is crucial in ensuring our students continue to receive the consistent and high-quality education they deserve throughout the academic year. Ideal candidates are those considering a future in teaching and wish to gain hands-on experience across various grade levels and subjects. Successful performance as a Building Substitute may lead to further opportunities within KIPP Massachusetts in subsequent years.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Classroom Duties
Maintain daily attendance and complete required reporting
Implement daily lesson plans aligned with the lead teacher’s curriculum to foster a unified learning experience
Comply with school policies, including emergency procedures
Ensure all students feel valued and challenged each day
Promote a positive and calm classroom atmosphere
Integrate core values into lesson execution and adhere to school-wide culture systems and effective classroom management strategies
Keep detailed records and maintain clear communication with students, the absent teacher, and school leadership regarding lessons, classroom dynamics, and student progress
School and Professional Development Responsibilities
Engage in both school-wide and individual professional development sessions, including summer training and weekly sessions during the academic year
Take proactive steps in your professional growth by seeking feedback from coaching sessions (meeting bi-weekly, implementing feedback, collaborating on lesson planning, and participating in live coaching)
Assist with support duties, including coverage, bus, lunch, and dismissal responsibilities
Build strong relationships with families through participation in school events and consistent communication
Be receptive to feedback and support from colleagues to foster a professional environment conducive to accountability and improvement
Collaborate with peers to address common challenges and implement cohesive grade-wide systems, sharing the responsibility of student outcomes
Maintain reliable attendance in accordance with the academic calendar
