The Career Counselor at Treasure Island plays a crucial role in guiding program participants through their career and academic journeys. This position involves providing comprehensive counseling services focused on career development, social skills, and personal growth.
- Engage in collaborative efforts with various departments to effectively support each student’s needs.
- Conduct ongoing assessments and evaluations of assigned students through both formal and informal methods.
- Assist students in pursuing further education and accessing additional training opportunities.
- Connect students with community resources essential for a successful transition from the Job Corps program to their desired career paths.
- Document a minimum of two monthly counseling sessions for minors and one for adult students, adjusting frequency for those requiring extra support.
- Perform ESP and MYPACE reviews as mandated by the PRH.
- Regularly update and review information within the CIS system as necessary.
- Coordinate retrieval efforts and manage leaves and passes according to PRH and Center Director protocols.
- Support students in establishing both short-term and long-term career goals, leveraging their strengths, addressing challenges, and resolving personal issues that impact career readiness.
- Complete tasks assigned by the Counseling Supervisor and program administration.
- Prepare written evaluations and reports for external agencies or mental health referrals as required.
- Participate in collaborative reviews with resident advisors and the Center Mental Health Consultant to evaluate student needs and requests for specialized counseling.
- Co-facilitate small group sessions focused on social and employability skills.
- Monitor and manage student data projections, updating weekly to ensure progress.
- Contribute to student orientation and assist in developing employability plans.
- Serve as the Counselor on Duty on weekends in a rotational capacity.
- Involve in all aspects of Career Management Team discussions and decisions.
- Exemplify effective communication and modeling of CSS and employability skills.
- Ensure accountability among staff, students, and property.
- Adhere to safety protocols across all responsibilities.
- Create and maintain a respectful, harassment-free environment that promotes safety and learning for both staff and students.
