Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:Take ownership of the UAV/drone platform's system architecture, including airborne computing, autonomy stack, sensors, power systems, communications, payloads, and ground segments.Convert mission requirements into a detailed system decomposition: modules, interfaces, data flows, timing/latency budgets, and safety constraints.Create and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) across avionics, perception/navigation, controls, payloads, and ground control stations.Lead architecture trade studies covering compute selection (SoC/accelerators), sensor setups (GNSS/IMU/cameras/LiDAR), networking (Ethernet/CAN/UART), and cost-benefit analyses.Establish performance and verification plans (HITL/SITL, bench tests, flight tests) with acceptance criteria and comprehensive test coverage.Implement reliability and safety engineering practices: redundancy concepts, fail-safe behaviors, health monitoring, and stringent change control for safety-critical interfaces.Collaborate closely with hardware and software teams to ensure seamless integration of the middleware/abstraction layer with evolving electronics and firmware.Drive high-quality documentation including architecture diagrams, MBSE artifacts (as applicable), requirements traceability, and production deployment readiness.Expected Deliverables:System architecture specification (block diagrams, data flows, timing constraints, safety assumptions).Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for airborne-payload-ground integrations.Verification & validation plan with HITL/SITL + flight test milestones and measurable acceptance criteria.Architecture backlog/roadmap: prioritized technical risks, trade studies, and integration plans across teams.
