Your Team:
At HPD, the Division of Tenant & Owner Resources (DTOR) oversees various rent subsidy programs. Our rental assistance programs, including Section 8 and the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, offer financial support to eligible low-income families, helping them secure decent, safe, and affordable housing in neighborhoods of their choice. Families typically contribute around 30% of their income towards rent, while HPD covers the remaining balance directly to landlords. All housing units must meet HPD's reasonable rent criteria and comply with federal Housing Quality Standards (HQS) for approval.
Your Impact:
DTOR administers several rental subsidy programs, including Housing Choice Voucher (HCV), Project Based Voucher (PBV), Moderate Rehab Section 8, Moderate Rehab Single Room Occupancy (SRO), Continuum of Care (CoC)-Shelter Plus Care (SPC), and NYC 15/15. Through these initiatives, we support over 40,000 households and 9,000 landlords across all five boroughs. DTOR handles initial application screenings, eligibility confirmations, applicant briefings, and voucher issuances. Additionally, we monitor compliance with program obligations and manage ongoing subsidies throughout participants' enrollment, which includes processing annual and interim recertifications, facilitating tenant moves, managing rent increase approvals, and providing customer service through our Client Services office, call center, and the DTR Portal.
Your Role:
As a Client Services Specialist within the Division of Tenant Resources, you will play a crucial role in delivering essential customer service to HPD clients. You will engage with clients via phone, email, and in-person interactions, ensuring accurate case screenings, providing timely updates and guidance, and meticulously documenting all relevant information.
