About the job
At SpaceX, we believe the adventure of exploring the cosmos is a future worth pursuing. Our mission is to develop groundbreaking technologies that will enable human life on Mars and beyond. Join us in shaping the future of space exploration.
CNC PROGRAMMER (STARSHIP COMPONENTS) – LEVEL 4/5
As a CNC Programmer at SpaceX, you will leverage your expertise and innovative spirit to craft unique solutions at the forefront of aerospace technology. Your work will contribute to hardware that launches satellites into orbit, transports astronauts to the International Space Station, and expands humanity's reach into the universe. You will play a pivotal role in the design and enhancement of both new and existing hardware, while also leading the development of robust machining processes for our current and future spacecraft.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilize Esprit CAM to program and generate G-Code for Okuma mill-turn lathes and mills, focusing on optimizing intricate, multi-axis machining programs.
- Develop and refine tooling and process setup sheets for new parts, applying lessons learned from past projects.
- Set up, validate, and operate machining programs on Okuma equipment, independently troubleshooting issues to minimize production downtime.
- Contribute to the creation and management of a CAM database to facilitate efficient programming for new parts, including data analysis to enhance repeatability.
- Address quality concerns from inspections, lead root-cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to improve processes.
- Analyze parts for Design for Manufacturing (DFM) to ensure optimal manufacturability; collaborate closely with engineering teams to recommend drawing modifications.
- Incorporate feedback from engineering and production to swiftly iterate on part processes and designs, mentoring junior programmers on best practices.
- Engage in continuous education and stay updated on the latest manufacturing technologies, integrating them into team workflows.
- Proactively manage production flow, identify potential production bottlenecks early, and propose solutions to management.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace in compliance with shop and SpaceX standards; assist in developing and enforcing best practices for the broader team.
- Collaborate with other SpaceX machine shop facilities to share capabilities, optimize resource allocation, and address capacity/scheduling challenges.
