The Bureau of Vital Statistics (BVS), part of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, is responsible for the registration, issuance, amendment, and secure storage of all birth and death certificates in New York City. The Office of Vital Records (OVR) handles hundreds of thousands of requests each year, issuing over one million documents and welcoming more than 100,000 in-person visitors to its multiple public-facing lobbies. OVR serves as a critical link between New Yorkers and the Health Department, playing a pivotal role in service delivery, regulatory compliance, and revenue generation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate and disseminate daily operational reports and workload analyses to optimize staffing decisions and resource allocation.
- Collect, validate, and manage data for internal and external reporting, including the Mayor's Management Report and accountability metrics.
- Monitor and respond to inquiries at the commissioner level, ensuring compliance with response timelines.
- Analyze operational performance metrics to identify trends and risks, providing data-driven insights to leadership.
- Maintain and update workflow documentation, user guides, and internal process standards for operations.
- Collaborate with Communications and subject matter experts to refine customer-facing forms and online content.
- Assist in system modernization by testing operational systems and documenting outcomes.
- Train and supervise HRTP interns and volunteers to ensure quality and procedural adherence.
- Coordinate across teams to enhance data accuracy and support continuous operational improvement initiatives.
