Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation is on the lookout for an innovative and experienced Data Science Manager to spearhead the Product Analytics team. This pivotal role reports directly to the Senior Director of Research and Decision Science. As the Data Science Manager, you will oversee a dedicated team of data scientists whose insights shape strategies and initiatives aligned with our mission: to empower every individual to freely share in the sum of all knowledge. Your team will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and various stakeholders within the Wikimedia movement to deliver actionable data and insights that inform decision-making across the Foundation and its communities.
In this capacity, you will guide your team in leveraging quantitative data to enhance product development, understand our user base, inform strategic decisions, and evaluate the effectiveness of new features. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and timely delivery of your team's outputs, implementing robust data processes and protocols, and fostering an environment that prioritizes data accessibility for all key stakeholders.
Remote Work Requirements: Candidates must reside within the UTC+1 to UTC-8 time zones, be available for essential meetings and synchronous collaboration between 14:00 and 22:00 UTC, and be willing to travel for offsite events and conferences (up to 4 times annually).
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate quantitative data and insights on time, guiding product strategies and evaluating the impact of development work while ensuring compliance with rigorous standards in a dynamic environment.
- Lead and mentor a team of approximately seven data scientists, nurturing a culture of collaboration, trust, and empowerment.
- Facilitate the development of critical thinking and data-driven storytelling skills among team members, enhancing their technical capabilities and stakeholder engagement.
- Work alongside the Experiment Platform and Data Engineering teams to create and maintain data products that enhance accessibility to insights.
- Collaborate with product teams, especially product managers, and colleagues in the Research & Decision Science group to foster a culture of data-informed product development.
- Continuously refine and enhance best practices for experimentation and measurement.
