The Dean of Students is pivotal in fostering a positive, structured, and disciplined school culture at KIPP NYC. Reporting directly to the Principal, the Dean plays a crucial role in guiding school policy and serves as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians. An ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for student support, adaptability to evolving situations, and the ability to build collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and families.
Duties and Responsibilities:
School Culture: Collaborate with the leadership team to nurture a vibrant, achievement-focused school environment. Drive the integration of core values and character development within classrooms. Maintain a strong presence during school hours, ensuring a supportive culture, and actively engage with students in classrooms and hallways.
Student Discipline: Serve as the primary contact for discipline-related issues. Implement a school-wide behavior plan, assist educators in enhancing classroom management, and model effective strategies for addressing misbehavior.
Family Communication: Acknowledge and celebrate student achievements, maintaining regular communication with families regarding attendance and behavioral issues. Fluency in Spanish is preferred for effective communication.
Teacher Coaching and Professional Development: Design and deliver professional development sessions for staff, focusing on building instructional skills and fostering positive student-teacher relationships.
