We are in search of a talented and motivated Diode Laser Engineer to contribute to the design, qualification, and scaling of high-power diode laser technologies that will be integral to our advanced fusion laser systems. This position places you at the convergence of physics, engineering, and industrial application, as you collaborate closely with suppliers, research institutions, and internal teams to enhance the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of laser diode technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Diode Technology Development: Innovate and assess high-power laser diode emitters, bars, and stacks to achieve stringent performance, efficiency, longevity, and cost targets for fusion laser applications.
Testing & Characterization: Formulate and execute thorough electro-optical, thermal, and reliability testing protocols (P-I-V, spectral behavior, beam quality, thermal resistance, lifetime, etc.) under applicable operating conditions including pulsed, CW, and high-duty cycle scenarios.
Automated Test Infrastructure: Design, implement, and manage automated testing systems for high-volume characterization and accelerated life testing of both commercial and custom laser diode devices.
Reliability & Lifetime Modeling: Spearhead accelerated life testing (ALT/HALT), scrutinize degradation mechanisms and failure modes, and create predictive models for lifetime and reliability to guide system design and operational thresholds.
Supplier & Partner Collaboration: Collaborate with industry partners, suppliers, national laboratories, and academic institutions to enhance diode performance, packaging, thermal management, and readiness for manufacturing.
System Integration: Work alongside DPSSL system and beamline teams to ensure effective integration of diode technologies within laser modules, supporting overall system performance and scalability.
Data Analysis & Reporting: Investigate extensive experimental datasets, produce comprehensive technical documentation, and effectively communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
