The Director of Engineering will lead the Mid-Atlantic Engineering Department, overseeing all activities to ensure the efficient execution of the region's capital plan. This role involves managing various water and wastewater projects, including upgrades to treatment facilities, pump stations, storage tanks, and pipelines, as well as enhancements to wastewater plants, lift stations, and collection systems.
This position requires close collaboration with Engineering and Operations teams, utilizing a cross-functional approach to manage and coordinate program activities effectively.
The ideal candidate will engage with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver the capital plan that meets system requirements while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and actively contributing to the company's strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the delivery of over $50 million in water and wastewater projects annually, including conceptual design and project management from initiation to closeout.
- Lead the hiring, supervision, and mentorship of the Engineering Team.
- Collaborate with the rate department to develop capital plans and provide testimony for rate filings, including appearing before rate commissions as necessary.
- Drive business development initiatives and engage in professional activities to enhance Veolia's reputation with regulatory agencies.
- Ensure all projects adhere to corporate Technical and Environmental Health and Safety/Security standards.
- Manage environmental and governmental permitting processes in conjunction with local business unit staff.
- Support construction management teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable standards.
- Monitor project delivery metrics and implement alternative procurement and delivery methods to drive efficiency.
- Provide monthly updates to management regarding project status and performance challenges.
- Contribute to the development of engineering design and delivery processes and standards.
- Provide technical expertise on engineering and operational challenges, supporting facility condition assessments for water and wastewater operations.
- Work effectively across corporate and local business units.
Work Environment:
- Willingness to travel to various business unit sites as required by job responsibilities.
- Job sites are typically within a 30-mile radius of the local office.
