The Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) is pivotal in establishing and steering the organization’s project delivery governance, ensuring the effective execution of the company's entire project portfolio. This strategic role is essential in driving operational excellence across project planning, execution, financial performance, risk management, and client delivery.
The Director guarantees that all projects align with contractual obligations, adhere to company standards, and meet profitability targets. This position also involves overseeing the development of PMO frameworks, monitoring portfolio performance, and enhancing project delivery capabilities via advanced enterprise systems like Deltek.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Governance
- Create and maintain a comprehensive PMO governance framework across the organization.
- Ensure project execution aligns with corporate strategic objectives.
- Manage portfolio prioritization and resource allocation across all projects.
- Maintain comprehensive visibility of portfolio performance and delivery risks.
Project Delivery Excellence
- Ensure timely delivery of projects within scope and approved budgets.
- Monitor schedule performance, milestone adherence, and delivery commitments.
- Promote discipline in project planning, submissions management, and resource coordination.
Financial Performance and Commercial Control
- Safeguard project profitability by overseeing margins and controlling cost overruns.
- Manage revenue forecasting and financial performance across the project portfolio.
- Ensure commercial discipline in managing variations, contractual obligations, and financial risks.
Risk and Change Management
- Implement enterprise-level risk management practices for project delivery.
- Facilitate early identification and mitigation of project risks.
- Oversee change management governance to ensure appropriate approvals and financial control.
Client Delivery and Relationship Management
- Foster executive-level relationships with key clients.
- Ensure delivery excellence that promotes long-term client satisfaction and repeat business.
- Lead the resolution of significant project escalations and delivery issues.
PMO Maturity and Operational Excellence
- Standardize project management methodologies and delivery frameworks across all projects.
- Ensure full adoption of PMO processes and reporting standards.
- Develop advanced portfolio dashboards and reporting capabilities utilizing Deltek.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and foster institutional learning across projects.
