About the job
Join us in shaping the future of veterinary medicine!
At Mission Road Animal Clinic, we believe in investing in the next generation of veterinarians. Our DVM Student Externship/Preceptorship Program offers an invaluable opportunity to gain real-world experience in a contemporary and well-managed practice, complementing your veterinary education and enhancing your readiness to provide exceptional care post-graduation.
Program Overview:
Our externship program is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing for durations ranging from two to eight weeks throughout the year, typically aligned with your academic schedule. Expect to engage in various shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
During your externship, you will work closely with our experienced veterinary team to hone your problem-solving, technical, and communication skills. You will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of patient care while receiving a stipend of $250 per week.
Your Responsibilities:
As an extern, you will experience the diverse caseload typical of a small animal practice. Under the mentorship of your supervising veterinarian, you will be responsible for gathering patient histories, performing physical examinations, developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans, assisting in surgeries, managing medical cases, and enhancing your client communication skills. You'll also document your findings through appropriate medical records (SOAP notes) within the daily practice time constraints.
Who We Seek:
We are looking for enthusiastic veterinary students who are committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethical practice. It is essential that you familiarize yourself with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding the scope of duties and required supervision to ensure the safety and integrity of our practice. We expect our externs to maintain a professional appearance and behavior, adhering to the standards set forth in our employee handbook.
