As an Electrical Inspector, you will be responsible for inspecting electrical installations, repairs, and alterations to ensure conformity with NYC Construction Codes, the Electrical Code, Department rules, and approved plans and specifications. This position operates under general supervision and includes the following responsibilities:
- Conduct technical inspections of electrical installations related to light, heat, and power for buildings and structures, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
- Perform routine inspections of electrical wiring in combustible occupancies and public assembly venues.
- Collaborate with FDNY during joint inspections at fire scenes to evaluate potential electrical defects.
- Investigate complaints regarding defective electrical installations reported as fire hazards or shock risks, providing verbal and written instructions for necessary corrections.
- Review engineering drawings and plans to gather details needed for inspections.
- Enforce electrical standards and relevant laws, issuing violations, summonses, and stop work orders as necessary.
- Verify the credentials of workers on-site.
- Provide clear explanations of violations and their implications to recipients.
- Testify in hearings, depositions, and court as required.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of inspections and findings.
- May involve supervising and evaluating the work of subordinates, reviewing applications, and assisting supervisors as needed.
Physical requirements include driving to inspection sites, walking and climbing to various inspection locations, standing for long periods, and working in potentially hazardous environments.
Special Working Conditions: This role may require shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
