As an Engineering Manager, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team, collaborating closely with a skilled group of engineers. This position combines hands-on technical involvement with leadership responsibilities, guiding project delivery while remaining engaged with the technical details when necessary.
In partnership with the Product Manager, you will help prioritize tasks, balancing new initiatives with continuous improvements to maintain team focus and support. You'll also work alongside other leaders within the organization to share best practices and enhance our engineering culture during our growth phase.
Your Impact as an Engineering Manager
At Utility Warehouse, you will establish clarity, consistency, and momentum within your squad. You will set the direction, uphold high standards for both delivery and quality, and ensure a balance between short-term objectives and long-term sustainability. Your role will involve coaching, providing feedback, and fostering a positive team culture while effectively communicating across different levels of the organization. Your responsibilities will include:
Technical Mastery: Oversee technical decisions made by your squad, ensuring alignment with company and technical strategies. You will possess a deep understanding of the engineering practices employed by your team and identify areas for enhancement.
Impact: Play a crucial role in defining team objectives and ensuring that the proposed work aligns with those goals. You will drive prioritization within the team to achieve desired outcomes.
Operational Excellence: Identify and implement practices necessary to meet security and operational service level objectives (SLOs). You will coordinate with your squad and others to ensure organization-wide on-call coverage while leading regular metrics reviews to maintain high performance.
Planning & Delivery: Collaborate with the Product Manager and team to establish objectives and key results (OKRs) that align with company goals. You will proactively identify risks and blockers and work with stakeholders to mitigate them. Measuring team performance will be essential for continuous improvement, and you will communicate progress against OKRs, key performance indicators (KPIs), and other milestones to relevant stakeholders.
People & Coaching: Ensure your squad is equipped with the necessary technical skills to meet objectives, developing team members' skills and hiring as needed.
