Salary and Benefits
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents will receive an annual salary that varies by grade level, ranging from GL-5/GL-7 with earnings between $51,632 and $92,219 per year. In addition, agents will have access to a wide array of federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance, generous leave entitlements, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed agents are eligible for a recruitment incentive of up to $20,000, distributed in two installments: $10,000 upon completion of the Border Patrol Academy, and an additional $10,000 for accepting a prioritized duty location.
Retention Incentive
Agents may also qualify for retention incentives totaling up to $40,000 over their first four years.
Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments may be available at the Southwest Border, including prioritized locations. The U.S. Border Patrol will determine duty assignments based on operational needs, which may not align with candidates' preferences. Relocation may be required.
Duty location can influence pay rates, with locality pay potentially increasing base salary by up to 25% as per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with promotional opportunities from GL-5 to GL-12.
