Salary and Benefits
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents earn an annual salary ranging from $51,632 to $92,219 based on grade levels (GL-5/GL-7). Agents can select from a variety of federal employment benefits, including health, dental, and other insurance plans, a generous leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
New hires may receive up to $20,000 in incentives, with the first $10,000 awarded after completing the Border Patrol Academy, and the remaining $10,000 for accepting a priority location.
Retention Incentive
Agents may also qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives over their first four years of service.
Duty Locations
Important Notice: Duty assignments may include the Southwest Border, with relocation potentially required. The U.S. Border Patrol assigns duty locations based on operational needs, which may differ from candidates' preferences. Certain locations offer higher locality pay rates, and trained BPAs may earn up to an additional 25% of base pay under the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This position is a career ladder role with grade level progression from GL-5 to GS-12.
