Role Overview
The Finance Data Scientist is pivotal in transforming how Finance, Operations, and Commercial teams harness data for decision-making. This hybrid role combines extensive financial knowledge with advanced analytics, data modeling, and visualization skills. The position supports structured reporting and analytical problem-solving, ensuring the organization has precise, credible, and forward-looking insights. This role emphasizes collaboration with FP&A, Finance, Data Engineering, Data Product Management, HR/Reward teams, Sales Operations, and senior business leaders to modernize financial reporting, optimize forecasting, and develop scalable analytical tools that enhance business acumen. A crucial aspect of this position is to bridge the gap between Finance and Technology/Data teams, ensuring that financial logic and controls are integrated into data products and reporting systems. The ideal candidate is a confident presenter who can effectively communicate, collaborate, and secure buy-in from diverse stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute financial analysis, modeling, and scenario planning.
- Support FP&A cycles, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance evaluations.
- Create and enhance Power BI dashboards (Power Query, DAX, strong data modeling) that serve as reliable sources of truth for revenue, cost, margin, headcount, and operational KPIs.
- Develop predictive and statistical models (e.g., regression, classification, anomaly detection, clustering) to optimize forecasting and operational performance.
- Translate business rules and financial logic into robust, governed data models while embedding reconciliation logic and financial controls within data pipelines.
- Collaborate closely with FP&A, Finance, Data Engineering, Data Product Management, HR/Reward, Sales Operations, and senior leadership on impactful analytical projects and ad hoc problem resolution.
- Automate data refreshes and reporting pipelines, transforming manual reporting into reliable and repeatable processes.
Qualifications
Financial Expertise
- ACCA / CIMA / ACA qualified or part qualified strongly preferred.
- Proven understanding of forecasting, budgeting, and cost/margin analysis.
