About the Role
At OpenAI, we strive to advance AI in a manner that is safe, reliable, and aligned with societal values. The Applied Foundations role is vital for maintaining the trustworthiness of our platforms. You will be instrumental in creating robust defenses against a variety of adversarial behaviors that pose risks to our ecosystem.
In this position, you will collaborate with our entire engineering team to design and implement systems that detect and prevent abuse, enhance user safety, and mitigate risks across our platform. You will lead efforts to ensure that the vast potential of AI is utilized responsibly and sustainably.
Key Responsibilities:
Design APIs tailored to internal workflows that engage with all parts of the stack, supporting the team in making informed data model decisions.
Build and integrate tools that empower internal teams to conduct safety, abuse, and risk investigations effectively, ensuring robust access controls, auditability, and operational rigor.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop solutions that safeguard against and mitigate adversarial attacks while preserving user experience.
Assist in responding to active incidents on the platform and create new tools and infrastructure that address underlying issues.

Possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in professional software engineering.
