ABOUT THE LUCAS MUSEUM OF NARRATIVE ART
Scheduled to open in September 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a groundbreaking institution dedicated to the art of illustrated storytelling. Established by visionary filmmakers George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum boasts a diverse collection that includes works from renowned artists such as Norman Rockwell, Kadir Nelson, and Frida Kahlo, along with legendary comic artists like Winsor McCay and Jack Kirby, as well as iconic photographers including Gordon Parks and Dorothea Lange. The museum also features the Lucas Archives, showcasing models, props, concept art, and costumes from Lucas's illustrious filmmaking career.
Designed by celebrated architect Ma Yansong of MAD and landscaped by Mia Lehrer of Studio-MLA, the Museum will be situated in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, spanning an 11-acre campus that will include ample green spaces and a 300,000-square-foot building housing galleries, theaters, a library, dining options, retail spaces, and community areas.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is on the lookout for a General Counsel to spearhead and manage all legal aspects of the Museum. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Counsel will play a crucial role as a trusted advisor within the organization.
The successful candidate will be a seasoned attorney responsible for addressing all legal matters pertaining to the Museum, including contract negotiations, compliance with exempt organization laws, tax and estate issues, intellectual property rights, employment and labor relations in collaboration with the Chief People & Culture Officer, and legal considerations related to exhibitions, art acquisitions, and nonprofit operations.
The General Counsel will act as a strategic partner to the executive team, demonstrating critical and creative thinking abilities alongside strong problem-solving skills.
