At Anglo American, we are seeking a talented Geotechnical Engineer to join our team.
The primary goal of this role is to proactively monitor potential ground instabilities through site supervision and propose stabilization measures. You will also oversee geotechnical designs and identify areas for optimization, which can lead to significant savings in earth movement during construction while enhancing workplace safety regarding slope stability.
Main Responsibilities
- Supervise earth movement operations focusing on slope stability and water management.
- Develop working procedures for all activities within the G&H department.
- Conduct geomechanical mapping.
- Oversee geological/geotechnical drilling campaigns.
- Log and relog diamond and RC drill holes.
- Perform slope stability analyses.
- Collaborate on geotechnical studies and evaluations, in-house design changes, and optimizations.
- Ensure the quality of blasting operations to control slope damage.
- Carry out geotechnical surveys for design reconciliation (SOP, Full Control).
- Assist in the development of geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring programs.
- Implement geotechnical monitoring and instrumentation programs on-site.
- Create and maintain an updated geotechnical monitoring database.
- Monitor and control geotechnical designs for key mining components, including open pits, waste dumps, and Asana barriers.
- Maintain effective communication with Geology, Planning, Mining Operations, Construction, and Engineering teams to support mining plans and corporate objectives.
- Contribute to the implementation of new technologies and innovations as part of the continuous improvement ethos in the area.
- Adhere to safety, environmental, and social responsibility standards in alignment with company policies.
SHE Responsibilities
- Understand and apply the values, principles, and SHE Policy of Anglo American Quellaveco, contributing to the vision of zero harm.
- Comply with and enforce legal requirements and commitments made by Anglo American Quellaveco, including internal management system standards, procedures, and regulations, as well as participate in training and awareness meetings to foster a culture of Zero Harm.
- Ensure that control measures for identified SHE hazards and risks are implemented on-site.
