A crucial aspect of our mission is safeguarding the privacy of our readers, contributors, and donors. Our Legal team provides essential counsel as we develop innovative tools and features for Wikipedia, ensure the security of our websites, and partner with volunteer developers to shape the future of our projects. We are seeking a junior to mid-career attorney with a keen interest and experience in product and privacy law to join our in-house legal department as Legal Counsel, reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel. Your Responsibilities Include: Advising product, engineering, and design teams on legal matters concerning feature development, launches, experiments, and ongoing platform operations. Supporting the legal review process for new products, modifications, and technical initiatives associated with Wikimedia projects. Assisting in the drafting, review, and upkeep of user-facing terms, disclosures, policies, FAQs, and internal guidelines. Providing legal counsel on matters related to product, privacy, data usage, consumer protection, intellectual property, accessibility, online safety, and other related issues. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify legal risks early on and devise practical solutions aligned with our mission. Staying informed about legal and regulatory developments that could impact Wikimedia’s projects worldwide. Qualifications: J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school or an equivalent foreign degree, with admission to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction. 2-5 years of experience in the legal review of technological products or online services. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail and full fluency in written and spoken English.
