Join our vibrant Water Solutions team as a Lead Design Engineer in our North & Midlands offices, benefiting from our flexible hybrid working model.
At AECOM, we are pioneers in delivering remarkable water programs and projects through enduring partnerships with prominent clients, including Wessex Water, Thames Water, Welsh Water, Severn Trent Water, South West Water, and various international contractors.
In this position, you will engage in high-stakes projects, from potable water and sewage networks to treatment facilities and flood mitigation strategies, encompassing all phases of design and implementation—from feasibility through to construction, operation, maintenance, and asset management.
Impactful Local and Global Projects
Our North & Midlands team participates in some of the UK's most notable, industry-leading infrastructure projects and international initiatives. Recent highlights include:
- Major upgrades at Wanlip Sewage Treatment Works (Leicestershire) enhancing water quality.
- The Mansfield Strategic Flood Resilience Project (£76m): The largest Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) retrofit in the UK.
- The Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme: Serving as a technical advisor to protect over 1,000 homes and 470 businesses.
- Consultancy on flood risk and drainage for the M54–M6 Link Road (Staffordshire).
- Primary Designer for Scottish Water from 2027–2033, leading national water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- International flood mitigation works, including projects in Al Ula, Saudi Arabia.
We also provide advisory services to national and governmental clients such as Network Rail, DEFRA, and National Highways, offering design guidance and legislative support that positions us at the forefront of the UK water sector.
Your Responsibilities:
Lead: Propel the technical delivery of water, wastewater, and flood infrastructure projects, managing multidisciplinary teams to produce innovative, value-added solutions throughout the design lifecycle.
Manage: Supervise key work packages from conception to handover, collaborating with AECOM teams, clients, and suppliers to engineer seamless technical solutions.
Collaborate: Partner closely with clients and AECOM collaborators to secure stakeholder approval for solutions, enhancing AECOM’s broader technical capacity and innovative methodologies.
Develop: Fulfill line management duties and facilitate the growth of junior team members, guiding their contributions to projects and mentoring them.
