Position Summary:
The Lead Inspector will spend a significant portion of the workday on-site at construction projects, acting as the Engineer's representative. You will observe, document, and ensure that construction activities align with the project plans, specifications, and contractual agreements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections and document ongoing work performed by contractors.
- Serve as a communication bridge between the Engineer, Owner, and Contractor.
- Prepare daily reports detailing work progress, site conditions, and decisions made.
- Engage in project meetings and take comprehensive notes.
- Maintain meticulous records for project documentation.
- Review contractor payment applications and submit recommendations to the Engineer.
- Assist Engineers during site visits to evaluate work progress.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- IQP certifications are mandatory.
- Proficient in interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with standard agency specifications, including those from the Idaho Transportation Department and the Idaho Standards for Public Works Construction (ISPWC).
- Demonstrated experience in precise record-keeping.
- Knowledge of public works construction processes and documentation.
- Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and rugged terrains.
- Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
- Experience with AASHTOWare and ProjectWise is advantageous.
Education and Experience:
- Possess Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction certifications, or be willing to obtain them promptly upon hiring. This requirement may be waived for candidates with a degree in civil engineering or construction management.
- Hold active Idaho Qualified Personnel testing qualifications for the Idaho Transportation Department, or be prepared to obtain them shortly after hire.
- A high school diploma or GED, along with a minimum of 3 years of construction and field experience.
- A valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
