Position: Linux Systems Administrator
Location: Madison, WI
Duration: 3+ Months
We are excited to announce an opening for a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team at a well-respected client based in Wisconsin. This opportunity begins on 3/23/2015 and is expected to run until 6/30/2015.
As a Systems Administrator, you will oversee all administrative functions for Linux servers, with a focus on Oracle Linux support. Your responsibilities will encompass installation, configuration, patch management, security, maintenance, and support for relevant peripheral devices. Key tasks include user account management, integration with directory services, performing system backups and restores, network and storage configuration, and managing virtual environments through VMware tools. You will also engage in performance optimization, system troubleshooting, diagnostics, and monitoring system performance and security.
Technical/Support Skills Required:
• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills.
• Strong organizational and presentation abilities.
• Proactive response to system incidents across all Linux systems, including patch deployments and maintenance, application upgrades, and alert monitoring.
• Expertise in system administration tasks such as installations, configurations, troubleshooting, kernel tuning, user access administration, file system optimization, hardware configuration, and performance tuning.
• Proficient in Linux system administration and engineering.
• Knowledge of Linux deployments and administration practices.
• Experience structuring and supporting high-availability web-based systems.
• Proficient in shell scripting.
• Familiarity with Linux performance tuning and associated utilities.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in SQL queries and scripting.
• Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP protocols, routing, subnets, services, DNS, etc.).
• Proven ability to work with both technical and non-technical personnel.
• Capability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and communicate effectively with executive management.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and problem ownership.
• Ability to negotiate acceptance criteria for problem resolution with both internal and external customers.
