Join dnigov as a Network Engineer II, providing expert Tier 3 engineering and operational support for the Indian Health Service (IHS) enterprise network. As part of our 24x7 Network Operations & Support Center (NOSC), you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, security, and compliance of network services across a vast WAN and multiple data centers, serving hundreds of geographically distributed sites.
In this position, you will troubleshoot complex incidents, implement configuration changes and upgrades, collaborate with telecommunications and hardware vendors, and generate essential documentation and reports in line with ITIL processes and Federal security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Routing & Switching (R&S)
- Provide expert support for routing, switching, and WAN connectivity incidents; diagnose and resolve performance degradations and outages.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco Nexus/IOS-based routing and switching platforms in enterprise environments located in data centers and IHS facilities.
- Implement and support standard routing protocols including OSPF and BGP.
- Perform software upgrades and patching, ensuring secure configuration baselines and standardized templates are maintained.
- Support QoS policies for voice/video and critical clinical applications; validate traffic behavior using flow and packet analysis tools as required.
Network Monitoring & Event Management
- Monitor network infrastructure for circuit, device, and security events; identify both hard failures and performance issues.
- Respond promptly to alerts and incidents, maintaining ownership and keeping stakeholders informed.
- Utilize monitoring and analysis tools such as Splunk, PRTG, LiveAction NX, Cisco Catalyst Center, SNMP/NetFlow, and log review to determine root causes.
- Prepare operational reports, including daily situational awareness and weekly summaries, as required by the program.
Wireless
- Support enterprise wireless LAN environments (Cisco and Aruba), including controllers and access point configurations.
- Troubleshoot wireless performance, authentication, and connectivity issues, coordinating remote changes and maintenance activities.
Security & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to Federal communication standards and security requirements, addressing vulnerabilities and compliance findings in collaboration with security stakeholders.
- Implement and maintain firewall and VPN configurations, including IPsec tunnel support and rule changes as per policy.
