About the job
JOIN THE MASSACHUSETTS TECHNOLOGY COLLABORATIVE:
The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MassTech) is a pioneering public agency dedicated to fostering business innovation and growth within the technology sector of Massachusetts, positioning the state as a leader in the global digital economy. The Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI), a division of MassTech, serves as the state's central broadband authority.
WHY BECOME A PART OF OUR TEAM:
By joining our dedicated team of professionals, you will contribute to our mission of making a significant impact on the communities we serve. MBI is at the forefront of a transformative movement aimed at bridging the digital divide. Through groundbreaking federal investments, we are expanding access to affordable and reliable broadband services, creating new jobs, enhancing healthcare access, enriching educational experiences for students, and improving the overall quality of life for our residents. We invite passionate individuals to help us realize this vision.
In Massachusetts, over 98% of residents have access to broadband, placing us 5th in the U.S. Nevertheless, essential work remains to address affordability, expand access to digital devices, and promote digital literacy. MBI is spearheading the strategy to achieve 100% universal service and meaningful internet adoption, essential for thriving in our increasingly digital world.
ROLE OVERVIEW:
MBI is seeking a motivated intern to assist with a vital project. In this role, you will help the Technical Director document the new network equipment installed on the MassBroadband 123 (MB123) middle-mile network. This position involves supporting the Technical Director during inspections of 23 Points of Interconnection (POIs), photographing the equipment and POI rooms, and contributing to the development of comprehensive documentation for the newly installed equipment as part of the MB123's 2025 Network Equipment Refresh initiative.
MBI successfully completed the construction of an open-access, middle-mile fiber-optic network in early 2014, which spans over 120 communities in western and central Massachusetts. This network is foundational for establishing last-mile connections to residents and businesses in areas still lacking high-speed internet services. After over a decade of operation, MassTech has invested in refreshing the network equipment to ensure the delivery of carrier-grade services. This is a unique chance to join a collaborative team and document the newly deployed network equipment on the MB123.
