The Role
As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant at VEG, you'll dive into the action from your very first day, playing a crucial role in supporting your team, comforting pet parents, and mastering the skills necessary for success in emergency veterinary care. You will be involved in every aspect of patient care—from triage to treatment, ensuring a comprehensive and compassionate experience for all.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide a warm welcome and steady support to incoming patients, assisting in triage and guiding them toward appropriate care.
- Support the veterinary team with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
- Collaborate with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians in setting up and monitoring anesthesia and sedation cases.
- Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
- Assist throughout the care process, whether in outpatient or inpatient settings, from exam rooms to treatment areas.
- Participate in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
- Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
- Advance to more complex responsibilities as you grow in your role.
