About the Role
Soho House Chicago is hiring a Pastry Cook I to join the pastry team at 113-125 N Green St, Chicago. This role works closely with the Pastry Chef to craft desserts and pastries that balance simplicity with memorable flavors. The Pastry Cook I manages various pastry kitchen tasks, from prepping and production to a-la-carte service, while keeping an eye on cost efficiency and quality.
Success in this position means being a reliable team member who can handle multiple stations, execute all menu items, and maintain consistent standards in every pastry served.
Main Responsibilities
- Prepare house-made pastries, following recipes and contributing creative ideas. Work independently across all pastry stations to deliver both a-la-carte and production pastries in a busy kitchen.
- Support the Pastry Chef with line operations and inventory, helping to control food costs, reduce waste, and educate staff about cost of goods sold (COGS) and profitability.
- Oversee and train Pastry Cooks, including onboarding and hands-on instruction.
- Follow all health and safety protocols, staying compliant with company policies and legal requirements.
- Maintain precision and attention to detail in plating a-la-carte dishes and preparing family meals.
- Assist with end-of-shift reports and handover documentation as directed by the Pastry Chef.
- Uphold company goals and deliver a consistent guest experience that meets Soho House Standards for service (3-8-10).
- Promote a positive team atmosphere and help create a welcoming work environment.
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an upscale, high-volume culinary setting.
- Strong skills in preparing pastries from scratch and plating both a-la-carte and production items.
- Ability to execute all menu items and maintain top quality across all stations.
- Valid food handler’s certificate required.
- Clear communication, ability to follow directions, and a collaborative team mindset.
