About Our Team
The People Operations team at SumUp is dedicated to enhancing our employee experience throughout Europe, with payroll playing a pivotal role. As we rapidly expand in Southern Europe, we invite you to apply for the Payroll Partner role on a one-year fixed-term contract. You will take complete ownership of the payroll processes for Spain and Italy. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a few years of payroll experience who is eager to move beyond the fundamentals—focusing on process enhancements, operating across two countries, and contributing to a People team that is creating innovative, efficient workflows.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Manage the complete payroll cycle for Spain and Italy, ensuring precision and adherence to local regulations.
- Identify and implement automation and process improvements with tools such as Workday and Payslip to minimize manual effort and enhance payroll accuracy.
- Address employee payroll inquiries through our ticketing system, resolving issues promptly and effectively.
- Collaborate with People Operations, Compensation and Benefits, and Accounting teams to maintain accurate payroll data.
- Assist the regional payroll lead in maintaining relationships with external service providers, including health insurers and pension companies.
- Review and update payroll policies and procedures as we continue to evolve as a business.
What We’re Looking For
- Practical payroll experience covering the full cycle, with familiarity in processing payroll in Spain or Italy.
- Strong grasp of Spanish and/or Italian labor and tax laws, with the ability to apply them independently.
- Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs, along with a keen attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration and clear communication with various teams and stakeholders.
- A proactive mindset towards process improvement, with a keen interest in automation tools and innovative work practices.
- Fluency in English and either Spanish or Italian.
