About the job
As a Precision Welder at Wabtec, you will play a crucial role in performing high-precision welding tasks on structural and mechanical components of locomotives, especially those affected by accidents or harsh operational conditions. This position is vital for ensuring the structural integrity, functionality, and safety of each repaired unit. You will collaborate closely with mechanics, technicians, and workshop supervisors to ensure that repairs meet the technical, regulatory, and quality standards set by Wabtec.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welding and Repair: Execute SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW welding processes on carbon steel, alloy steels, and other materials used in locomotives. Repair cracks, deformations, chassis, frames, tanks, railings, platforms, and other structures damaged by impact or wear. Perform cutting, beveling, joint preparation, and assembly of parts prior to the welding process. Safely and efficiently use oxy-fuel cutting equipment, plasma cutters, and industrial tools.
- Quality and Compliance: Ensure that all welds comply with AWS, ASME standards, and Wabtec's internal quality standards. Interpret blueprints, diagrams, WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), and PQR (Procedure Qualification Records). Conduct self-verification of welds through visual inspection, measurements, and tests.
- Industrial Safety: Adhere to safety procedures when working with heat, heights, confined spaces, and heavy machinery. Properly utilize the required personal protective equipment (PPE). Report unsafe conditions or damages that may compromise operations.
- Collaboration and Documentation: Record daily activities, materials used, and repair progress in Wabtec's established systems. Work collaboratively with assembly, painting, machining, engineering, and quality control departments. Provide technical feedback for continuous process improvement.
