About the job
Join the Biotherapeutic and Genetic Medicine (BGM) team at AbbVie as a Principal Research Scientist II, where you will spearhead the strategy for our group and multi-disciplinary project teams. In this pivotal role, you will establish a cutting-edge high-throughput siRNA screening platform, foster pipeline innovation through advanced delivery modalities, and facilitate the development of therapeutic leads across various disease areas including neuroscience, oncology, and immunology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Formulate and drive a multi-year strategic roadmap for the siRNA screening platform, ensuring alignment with therapeutic objectives in neuroscience, oncology, and immunology. Collaborate with key stakeholders to effectively allocate resources between platform-building and pipeline-driving initiatives.
- Execution Excellence: Manage the transition of manual assays into robust, automated high-throughput screening (HTS) workflows to identify potent siRNA leads. Serve as the primary liaison between Discovery and Development Sciences (DMPK, Tox, and CMC) to ensure smooth molecule transition and scale-up readiness.
- Innovative Research: Design and assess next-generation delivery modalities, specifically Antibody-Oligonucleotide Conjugates (AOCs) and tissue-specific ligand conjugates, leveraging advanced chemical modification techniques. Implement “fast-fail” in vivo screening models to quickly validate functional siRNA delivery to extrahepatic tissues.
- Team Development: Build, lead, and nurture a high-performing team of approximately 10 scientists, fostering a collaborative, agile, and courageous workplace culture while optimizing laboratory infrastructure for maximum throughput.
