About the job
AECOM is on the lookout for a Principal Mechanical Engineer who possesses a wealth of experience in Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) along with Subway Environment Simulation (SES) modelling for various Metro, Rail, and Road tunnel initiatives. This pivotal role involves guiding technical projects, ensuring the optimal design of ventilation systems, overseeing simulations, and liaising with clients. You will be responsible for steering engineering outcomes to align with operational, safety, and regulatory standards.
Your Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, verification, and performance evaluation of Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS) for various tunnel projects.
- Act as the primary technical liaison for clients, engaging in workshops, conducting reviews, and addressing technical inquiries.
- Create and evaluate engineering calculations, system layouts, and mechanical design drawings, ensuring accurate equipment sizing and specifications.
- Guarantee compliance of all designs with Employer Requirements and project specifications, particularly while collaborating with Fire & Life Safety (FLS) and Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) teams.
- Oversee the development of simulation models using SES, IDA Tunnel, FDS, or other equivalent software to define airflow requirements for TVS fans and conduct fire simulations for diverse scenarios.
- Direct the creation of 3D CFD simulations utilizing Pyrosim or similar software for Smoke Management systems.
- Coordinate TVS designs across various disciplines, including Structural, Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (SMEP), Architecture, Systems, and Civil Engineering, to produce accurate models that reflect tunnel networks and facilities.
- Lead space allocation and equipment maintenance planning for TVS components.
- Prepare and validate Modes of Operation (MoO) tables for system control and integration with SCADA/tunnel control systems.
