Our passionate team excels in the restoration of abandoned minelands and degraded agricultural areas into vibrant, diverse forests. We are supported by esteemed investors such as Temasek, Toyota Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Felicis Ventures, and YCombinator.
We are on the lookout for an enthusiastic and proactive Project Forester based in the Appalachian Region of the United States to enhance our Forestry Operations. This role focuses on forest establishment and contractor management. You will be responsible for supervising field silvicultural activities in collaboration with contracted forestry consultants, managing forestry service provider contracts, and participating in site evaluations. Close collaboration with Living Carbon teams across supply chain, land management, and carbon science will be essential. Your main goal will be to assist the Forestry Team in achieving its objectives for forest carbon project implementation through efficient coordination of project activities.
The ideal candidate is a driven, collaborative self-starter eager to manage reforestation projects across the Eastern United States, particularly on marginal and degraded lands. A successful applicant will possess a foundational understanding of forest establishment using mechanical and chemical site preparation methods. Proficiency in GIS/GPS technology, spreadsheet creation, and manipulation, as well as knowledge of Appalachian hardwood and conifer tree identification and physiology, is vital. Equally important are strong interpersonal skills for building relationships, the ability to work independently and travel as necessary, and a readiness to take the initiative and adapt in a rapidly evolving early-stage company.
