About the job
ITHAKA is dedicated to enhancing global access to knowledge and education. Through our services — JSTOR, Portico, and Ithaka S+R — we empower individuals worldwide to learn, grow, and navigate barriers to education. Our employees share a profound commitment to our community and to each other, fostering a culture where everyone can thrive.
The Role
We are on the lookout for a motivated and innovative Publisher Relations Intern to join our Content Strategy and Relationships Team at ITHAKA, the parent organization of JSTOR. JSTOR is a premier online platform granting access to academic journals, books, images, and primary sources for millions of users across colleges, universities, libraries, and NGOs in over 170 countries. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in managing relationships with publishers of electronic academic journals, delving into the scholarly publishing of both licensed and open access journals, and working alongside experts in content curation.
Interns will learn essential project management skills and assist in identifying significant journals that bolster academic scholarship on JSTOR. Your contributions will play a vital role in promoting journals published as open access on JSTOR, thereby enhancing their visibility and accessibility to a global audience. This position will report directly to the Senior Publisher Relations Manager.
This full-time internship requires a commitment of 40 hours per week over a 12-week period, commencing on June 1, 2026.
Responsibilities
The intern will support various projects throughout their term, with specific tasks and deliverables outlined in collaboration with their supervisor and team members. Potential project components may include:
Investigating New Content Resources
- Conducting market research to identify emerging trends in the academic field and support the integration of new, in-demand content on JSTOR.
- Exploring potential partnerships with new academic publishers, including crafting personalized outreach strategies to attract new open access content providers.
- Expanding the pipeline of new open access content across various types of media.
