Qualifications
Completion of a Medical Office Administration program or a recognized equivalent is required. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a healthcare or referral-based setting is essential. Proficient computer skills, with the ability to navigate diverse IT systems; expertise in Excel and Word is required. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with medical professionals, referrers, patients, and colleagues. Familiarity with medical terminology and various medical disciplines. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and deductive reasoning skills to assess information. Ability to document all pertinent information with precision and attention to detail. Highly organized with excellent prioritization skills and the capability to manage multiple tasks. Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment and handle ambiguity. Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work with minimal supervision.

Join the University Health Network (UHN) Medical Imaging team as a skilled Referral Specialist. As a pivotal member of the Toronto Region Diagnostic Imaging Central Intake Hub, you will serve as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, including referrers, service providers, patients, and colleagues, ensuring a professional and patient-centered first impression. This role is essential in coordinating, processing, and directing CT and MRI referrals across the Toronto Region, facilitating timely, accurate, and equitable access to diagnostic imaging services. You will play a key role in standardizing the referral experience and adapting to the evolving provincial Central Intake model as new workflows, technologies, and responsibilities emerge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver outstanding and prompt customer service.
- Efficiently manage incoming referrals through the Central Intake process.
- Review referrals for completeness and accuracy, following up with referrers as necessary.
- Direct referrals to the appropriate service location based on TR DI Hub workflows.
- Conduct administrative and site support tasks, including phone, email, documentation, and data collection/reporting. Engage in quality assurance and improvement initiatives as required.
- Adapt to evolving technologies, workflows, and procedures as the Central Intake model progresses.
- Undertake cross-functional duties and other responsibilities consistent with the role as assigned.
