THE ROLE
As a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant at VEG, you will dive right into the action, supporting your colleagues, comforting pet owners, and gaining invaluable experience from day one. You will play a vital role in triaging, treating, and nurturing pets during their time at our facility. This position is ideal for those looking to advance their careers in veterinary medicine, whether you aim to become a credentialed technician or explore various pathways in the field.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide a welcoming presence and assist in triaging incoming patients to ensure they receive appropriate care.
- Support with nursing care and treatments, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
- Collaborate with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians during anesthesia and sedation procedures.
- Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
- Be involved in every aspect of patient care, from outpatient visits to inpatient treatments.
- Participate in patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
- Receive training to perform CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer.
- Progress to advanced responsibilities as you gain experience.
