About the Role
At VEG, we don't just hire assistants; we cultivate future stars in emergency veterinary medicine. As a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you'll dive into the action from day one, supporting your team, comforting worried pet parents, and gaining hands-on experience in real-time. You'll play a crucial role in triage, treatment, and care, embarking on a journey where your career can flourish. Whether you're pursuing a pathway to becoming a certified technician or exploring your passions in veterinary medicine, we're committed to saying yes to your growth every step of the way.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide a warm welcome and steady support by triaging incoming patients and guiding them to care.
- Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
- Collaborate with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation cases.
- Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
- Support care during every stage: outpatient or inpatient, from examination rooms to treatment areas.
- Participate in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
- Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided!).
- Advance your skills and take on more advanced responsibilities as you grow in your role.
