THE JOB
At VEG, we don’t just hire veterinary assistants—we cultivate the next generation of emergency care leaders. As a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will immerse yourself in the action from day one, supporting your team, comforting pet parents, and gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic environment. You will play a vital role in triaging patients, assisting with treatments, and celebrating every wag of the tail. This is a career path where opportunities abound, whether you aspire to become a credentialed technician or explore various avenues within veterinary medicine.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Provide a warm welcome and steady support by triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward the necessary care.
- Assist with a range of treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
- Collaborate with our credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation cases.
- Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
- Support care during every stage, from outpatient to inpatient, and from exam room to treatment area.
- Participate in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
- Learn to perform CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
- Advance into more complex responsibilities as you grow.
