About the job
Archer Aviation is an innovative aerospace company located in San Jose, California, dedicated to developing an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Our mission is to enhance sustainable air mobility solutions while minimizing noise pollution. We are committed to designing, manufacturing, and operating cutting-edge electric aircraft that can transport up to four passengers efficiently and quietly.
At Archer, we aim for excellence and tackle complex challenges. We firmly believe that a diverse workplace enhances creativity, drives insightful solutions, and is vital for our success. We are committed to fostering an equitable and inclusive atmosphere that values and celebrates the unique contributions of each team member.
What You’ll Do:
As a Senior BMS Electrical Engineer, you will take charge of the hardware design for Archer’s high voltage battery management system (BMS).
In this role, you will:
- Lead the design of BMS PCBAs throughout their lifecycle, including circuit simulation, schematic capture, layout, routing, reviews, manufacturing, and revisions.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical and software engineering teams from the onset of the design process to ensure seamless integration of the BMS hardware into the battery pack.
- Design circuits that prioritize diagnostic coverage, redundancy, and fault tolerance, working alongside systems and safety teams to meet all safety objectives.
- Oversee the bring-up and verification of PCBAs, using lab equipment to ensure functionality across all operating conditions and fault injection scenarios.
- Assist in software development related to new circuits and revisions, while updating and creating interface documents as necessary.
- Coordinate builds with project management, design for manufacturability (DFM), supply chain, and quality assurance teams.
- Support production and manufacturing processes, including design-for-test, root-cause analysis of failures, and component traceability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the battery pack integrates smoothly with other electrical systems on the aircraft.
- Work with BMS integration, software, and controls engineers to facilitate hardware fault injection tests on hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems and battery packs.
