About This Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist specializing in Production Machine Learning to take ownership of our essential production bidding system. This role is not limited to research or merely addressing support tickets. You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business teams to identify challenges, design effective solutions, and deliver production-ready models that significantly influence our business outcomes.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are inquisitive, practical, and adaptable—data scientists who can fluidly switch between modeling, data engineering, and software development as the situation demands. While previous experience is valuable, your thought process and capacity for learning are even more critical.
This position is part of a dynamic data team that includes data engineers, data scientists, and analysts.
Your Responsibilities
Manage and enhance machine learning models operating in production, including monitoring, debugging, and iterative enhancements.
Develop, train, and optimize models employed in a real-time or near-real-time bidding and decision-making system.
Engage with stakeholders to clarify vague problems, define success metrics, and convert business requirements into technical solutions.
Design and implement feature engineering pipelines, considering model performance, latency, and maintainability.
Produce production-quality Python code (not limited to notebooks) and partner with engineering on deployment, CI/CD, and system architecture.
Evaluate model performance through logs, metrics, and offline analysis to recognize issues and potential improvements.
Contribute to the development of data pipelines and infrastructure as necessary (e.g., ETL processes, materialized tables, model inputs).
Make informed decisions between what is “theoretically optimal” and what is reliable, fast, and deployable.
Qualifications We Seek
Essential Requirements
Proficiency in Python, including experience writing code for production systems.
Strong SQL skills with experience in analytical databases (Snowflake or similar).
Practical experience in training and tuning tree-based models (e.g., LightGBM, XGBoost, CatBoost) using real, complex datasets.
