Join our dynamic team at Smit Lamnalco! Our Middle East office is currently seeking a Senior Maritime Pilot in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
Position Overview:
This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe navigation and pilotage of vessels, providing essential support and advice to the bridge management team. You will report directly to the Contract Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform safe and efficient pilotage duties on board sea-going tanker vessels.
- Navigate ships into and out of harbors, estuaries, straits, and through rivers, ensuring safety and compliance with operational standards.
- Oversee berthing, mooring, unmooring, and unberthing operations.
- Direct ship course and speed based on expertise in local winds, weather conditions, water depths, tides, currents, and navigational hazards.
- Guide the crew at the helm in steering the vessel and avoiding potential hazards using navigation aids.
- Provide instructions to tugboat captains regarding necessary assistance during berthing or unberthing.
- Analyze maps, charts, weather reports, and navigation equipment to dictate ship movements.
- Assist vessels approaching or departing from coastlines, navigating harbors, and during docking and undocking procedures.
- Operate ship-to-shore communication systems to ensure seamless information exchange for safe operations.
- Advise ship masters on harbor regulations, terminal protocols, and customs procedures.
